Scope of this Standard

This standard specifies requirements and test methods for vented and valve regulated lead-acid starter batteries with nominal voltages of 6 volts and 12 volts. This National Standard applies to lead-acid starter batteries which are used primarily as a power source for the starting of internal combustion engines and for auxiliary equipment of internal combustion engines vehicles.
